Level 1 Session 1
We will cover the following topics:
Fundamentals of Good Nutrition
Nutritional Deficiencies and Toxic load
Building a Personal Supplement Plan
Fundamentals of Good Nutrition
Nutritional Deficiencies and Toxic Load
- Individual Deficiencies Assessment
Two-thirds of the average calorie intake in modern countries consists of fat, sugar and refined flour. The calories in sugar are called ‘empty calories’ because they provide no nutrients and therefore, there is little room left to get the levels you need of all the essential nutrients.
- Individual Toxic Load Assessment
Chemicals have found their way into manufactured food, along with pesticides and antibiotics. Many of these chemicals are called anti-nutrients because they stop nutrients from being absorbed. The overload of anti-nutrients in your diet can exceed the body’s capacity to detoxify itself. Living on these foods can gradually create a toxic overload and rob your body of vital nutrients.
Building a Personal Supplement Plan
- Symptom Analysis Questionnaire
The symptom analysis questionnaire is divided into three categories: Vitamin, Mineral and Essential Fatty Acid Profiles, looking at their deficiency symptoms.
- Wellness Analysis Questionnaire
The wellness analysis questionnaire consists of 8 fundamental evaluations, including Energy, Stress and Exercise.
- Supplement Plan Sheet
Here are your results. You will see a list of 21 vitamins and minerals, and the amounts you need to take as supplements in addition to your balanced diet.

Level 1 Session 2
We will cover the following topics:
Understanding the Supplement Labels
Fine-Tuning Your Personal Plan
Possible Side Effects and Improvements
Understanding the Supplement Labels
What do the terms ‘Does not contain animal products’, ‘Chelated’, ‘Free of’, and ‘May contain traces’ really mean? Is it multivitamin and multi-mineral? Is it a well-known brand?
By the end of this session, you will be able to better understand supplement labels, recognise misleading labels and you will take away your very own:
- Handout of chemical names of nutrients
- Supplement types worksheet
Together, we will spend 10 minutes looking at this and understanding a few supplements, e.g. Vitamin C with bioflavonoids/immune boosters, antioxidant complex, complete vitamin B complex.
Fine-Tuning Your Personal Plan
When is the best time to take supplements? When is there a need to double the multivitamin dose? When is there a need to take a separate vitamin E supplement or a B-complex or B vitamin alone?
- 11 Strategies for supplement taking
Effective strategies for supplement taking (dos and don’ts handout).
- Daily supplements checklist
Use the checklist to get in the habit of taking your supplements daily, tick the box and enter the time.
Possible Side Effects and Improvements
Understand whether there are side effects. The positive “side effects” of a balanced diet, physical activity and a good supplement programme are increased energy, better memory, and greater resistance to disease. Detoxification may happen; this is not bad and usually subsides within a month.
- Supplement Programme reassessment worksheet
We will schedule a 12-week reassessment session to see the improvements with each nutrient over this period. Score 0-10 for improvement, with 0 being no improvement.

Level 2 Session 1
We will cover the following topics:
Identifying the best Supplements for You
Absorption and Incompatible Combinations
Interactions with Drugs
Identifying the Best Supplements for You
Four tests to assess the quality of manufacture
- Natural or synthetic supplements
Vitamins derived from natural sources may contain an unknown element that increases potency. Vitamin C is found in nature together with bioflavonoids.
Natural vitamin E (d-alpha-tocopherol) is 36% more potent than synthetic vitamin E (dl-alpha-tocopherol); look closely for the dI (which indicates the synthetic version).
Absorption and Incompatible Combinations
The pros and cons of timed-release or sustained-release formulas, and when these can be beneficial. Read the label and look for the clock image. Probably more expensive.
- Water-soluble vitamins absorption
B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12, Vit C, Folic Acid, Biotin
Best form to take, best time for absorption, what helps absorption, what hinders absorption.
- Fat-soluble vitamins absorption
Vit A, Vit E, Vit D
Best form to take, best time for absorption, what helps absorption, what hinders absorption.
- Mineral absorption
Calcium, Magnesium, Iron, Zinc, Manganese, Selenium, Chromium
Best form to take, best time for absorption, what helps absorption, what hinders absorption.
Interactions with Drugs
- Dos and Don’ts of supplement taking
Aspirin increases the need for vitamin C. Antibiotics increase the demand for vitamin B and beneficial bacteria. Paracetamol increases the need for antioxidants.
Warfarin (a blood-thinning drug), aspirin, vitamin E, and high-EPA/DHA fish oils all thin the blood. It’s better to reduce the drugs and increase the nutrients but consult your G.P. first.

Level 2 Session 2
We will cover the following topics:
Safe vs Toxic Levels of Vitamins and Minerals
Safety and Toxicity of Vitamins
Safety and Toxicity of Minerals
Safe vs Toxic Levels of Vitamins and Minerals
The ideal nutrient intake varies considerably for each individual depending on their age, sex, health and several other factors.
Research papers in scientific journals indicate that for most vitamins, except A and D, levels one hundred times greater than the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) are likely to be safe.
Safety and Toxicity of Vitamins
We spend time explaining toxicity levels, and safe and daily consumption.
An individual detailed look at vitamins A, D, E, C, and the B vitamins. Each vitamin is looked at individually and comments on their safety and toxicity are made, such as with vitamin C. The only drawback to taking large amounts of vitamin C is that it can have a laxative effect. Generally, supplements containing up to 5,000mg of vitamin C per day can be considered safe.
Safety and Toxicity of Minerals
A review of the toxic and safety margins of minerals.
The most frequent deficient mineral is iron, which is stored in the body and therefore toxicity can result from chronic intake.

Level 3 Session 1
We will cover the following topics:
Supplements and Healing
The Power of Antioxidants
Recommended Antioxidant Supplementation
Supplements and Healing
Six tips for your supplement programme design.
The Power of Antioxidants
Top 15 antioxidant foods according to their Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) ranking.
Some antioxidants are essential nutrients, like vitamin A and betacarotene, vitamin C and vitamin E. The balance between antioxidants and exposure to free radicals is crucial.
- Antioxidant Assessment
The antioxidant assessment consists of three separate health checks:
Symptom Check, Toxicity Check, Diet Check.
- Antioxidant Assessment Action Steps
Specific action steps you can take this week to increase your antioxidant protection.
- Antioxidant Assessment Action Steps Review and New Actions
List the action steps and describe your progress. Which steps do you need to continue working on?
- Antioxidant capacity
Recommended Antioxidant Supplementation
Total daily supplement intake as part of a multivitamin or extra vitamin C.
Top 5 strategies to boost antioxidant protection.
Antioxidant formulas (supplements) usually contain vitamins A, C, and E, zinc, and selenium combinations.
Co-enzyme Q10 is a vital antioxidant helping protect cells from carcinogens. It is also found in meat, fish, nuts and seeds.

Level 3 Session 2
We will cover the following topics:
Phytochemicals
Enzymes
Probiotics
Fibre
Phytochemicals
What are the top phytochemicals with proven health benefits?
Top 30 phytochemicals with detailed health benefits, chemical names, effects on health and known supplements (handout).
Phytochemicals are found in food. They are not essential nutrients but do play an essential role in our body’s biochemistry. Think of them as semi-essential nutrients.
Fruits and vegetables are rich sources of phytochemicals. For example, bioflavonoids in the form of citrus extracts are widely found in vitamin C supplements. Acai berry, black cherry and cranberry supplements (as extract or tablet) also contain bioflavonoids.
Capsaicin supplements are a helpful weight management aid by means of a decrease in appetite.
Allium is widely available in the form of supplements, particularly garlic extracts.
Enzymes
- Why are digestive enzymes fundamental for good health?
As an aid to digestion, many supplements contain these enzymes.
If your body becomes nutrient deficient, then enzyme deficiency soon follows. Thus, your body doesn’t make use of nutrients it takes in.
What enzymes do is break down food into smaller units.
Types of enzymes: Amylases which digest carbohydrate, Proteases which digest protein and Lipases which digest fat.
Probiotics
- When should probiotics supplements be suggested?
The 9 proven benefits of probiotics (handout)
Nature’s antibiotics. They not only keep less desirable residents, such as E. coli, at bay but also make it very hard for bugs, such as Staphylococcus, Salmonella and Campylobacter, to survive. These cause most cases of food poisoning.
Fibre
- Which type of fibre is optimal for you and how much fibre should you consume?
Common forms of fibre supplements. Possible side effects of fibre supplements.
The best soluble and insoluble fibre sources.
